Standard EN ISO 13688 specifies general performance requirements for ergonomics, harmlessness, size designation, ageing, compatibility and marking of protective clothing and the information to be supplied by the manufacturer with the protective clothing. It replaces the previous EN 340 as a reference for protective clothing.
The safety requirements are:
Chromium VI content: maximum < 3 mg/kg (equal to the detection limit defined in EN 420)
Nickel release: maximum < 0.5 µg/cm2 per week for all metallic materials in direct and prolonged contact with the skin (e.g. studs, accessories).
pH value: between 3.5 and 9.5
Colour fastness to perspiration: at least Index 4 of the grey scale
Carcinogenic aromatic amine release < 30 mg/kg
